Like a threshold to the city, the old fortress of Siena Italy sits on a hill between the valley floor and the city center. With any piece of authoritative infrastructure there comes this idea of the few watching the many. For this proposal of idea there is a consensus that the fortress no longer acts and should act as its intended purpose.
It is the many watching the few. The old tunnels of the bastions act as a focus and entry point to view what will lie ahead. Using the Camera Obscura, images of the city and one’s perception change to provide emersion into locale outside of context. The fortress is no stranger to mechanism; this time a mechanism of different observation.
