Gathering and Intimacy: A narrative for the Tabular Surface.
Do we gather in the material or in the makeup of the
material? Do we gather around objects or is our gather the
object?
Table, for one, is an object; it physically exists like most objects.
Its actuality is continued by the performance of certain
tasks. It is a place of gathering, discussion, reflection, observation,
or scrutiny.
The originality of the table it is far more than the flat surface
in which to dine. The table is the heartbeat of the festivity.
The identity of the table has grown over the years, yet, it is
an object of free space. It evokes the desire to engage. Even
in today’s contemporary setting the table continues to be the
center of activity. While countless tables are different from
the next, no matter how alike in appearance, all are in some
way dissimilar and individual.
There is no absolute essence in which all table possess. Their
connections are attributed to human perceptions and the way
the human mind organizes the world.
Humanity is the only thing that binds tables to tables.
These are tabular surfaces, delicate in structure, Material
reflectivity, and vagueness in presence and sight. Images of
personal wandering, playing, staring, etc., reflected on this
surface.
I take a selfie on your selfie. Reflections distort our perception
as to what is here and there. Lo Specchio is the spectacle.
Communicating with site a vision. Creating islands of visibility
and invisibility.
In Tabular Spectacular we choose to construct a linear surface,
composed of modular pieces each, traversing the front
of pavilions. There are two sates for the event; one, it is the
total linear set of pieces that stretch from end to end; two,
it is the reshuffling of pieces based on alphabetic coding to
form islands and internal rooms between pavilion, walls, and
self.
